On October 10, 1970 RASA opened its doors to the grass and moved to Sydney 2 years later to its current location to the Pauwstraat in the center of Utrecht, in the heart of the Netherlands. RASA developed in the years 70 and 80, youth center to a center for political and educational culture. In 1981 RASA organizes for the first time a park spectacle aimed at migrant culture initiative Tineke de Jong, the then Director of RASA. In the period 1984-1986 RASA deepened further in the immigrant culture and grew in 1989 to an intercultural center. Since the 2nd half of the 90 profiles RASA is expressly world center.

RASA presents world music from all continents and in this regard is unique in the Netherlands.

The name Rasa
The name was originally derived from RASA Tabula Rasa, Latin for "with a clean slate" or a "blank sheet". An appropriate name given to the events in advance. The meaning that now the name is granted RASA finds its origin in Sanskrit and is derived from the classical Indian art here. RASA refers to the experience of the audience goes through the emotions that the artist suggests.
