On May 10 axis. Bhikhu Parekh in Rotterdam is the eighth-ISIM Annual Lecture. Professor Parekh will speak about Europe and the Muslim Question: Does Intercultural Dialogue Make Sense? Besides a majority of politically, economically and culturally integrated Muslims in Europe, see Bhikhu Parekh a small group of mainly young Muslims who do, but not or Europe. They find their salvation in full faith. Their loyalty lies with their Islam is not in the country where they live or in the country of their parents or grandparents. Intercultural dialogue is sometimes a limited income. But how should we deal with these other young people and the questions and fears they call?

Against the background of the 50th anniversary of the European Union chooses the ISIM this year for a European theme, and a speaker from Europe. Bhikhu Parekh (India, 1935) is professor of political philosophy at the University of Westminster (Great Britain). He has made a significant contribution to the debate on cultural diversity and multicultural society. Parekh wrote Rethinking Multiculturalism (2000). He was chairman of the Runnymede Commission who did research in 1998-2000 to The Future of Multi-ethnic Britain. This so-called Parekh report made in England a vigorous discussion separately.

Bhikhu Parekh was Labor member of the House of Lords. He recommended, inter alia, UNESCO's Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity (2001). He received numerous awards, including the BBC Special Lifetime Achievement Award for Asians (1999) and Sir Isaiah Berlin Prize for Lifetime Contribution to Political Philosophy (2003). Last month he received from the hands of the President of India, a senior Indian award, the Padma Bhushan.

The ISIM (International Institute for the Study of Islam in the modern world) does and promotes innovative research into social, political, cultural and intellectual trends and movements in contemporary Muslim communities. Research and a worldwide network of thinkers and doers is the capital of the ISIM: ISIM makes it insights from active research for policy and debate in the Netherlands. The ISIM organizes so much more under-ISIM Annual Lecture, which since 1999 offers a platform to leading thinkers on contemporary Islam.

For the program of the Annual Lecture 2007 works with ISIM Cosmodrome Polis Rotterdam, The House of Cultural Dialogue, and the Municipality of Rotterdam.

The ISIM Year Lecture 2007 will take place on Thursday, May 10 at 16:00 pm, in the old cinema Kriterion, on the floor of the 7e/8e Wholesale Building, Station 45 (input A), Rotterdam.
