"He who has perfect faith in the Law of Karma, the law of Reincarnations Avatara, Ancestors worship, Varnashrama Dharma, Vedas and existence of God, he who practices the instructions given in the Vedas with faith and earnestness, he who does Sandhya, Sraaddha , Pitri-Tarpana and the Pancha-Maha-Yajnas, he who follows the Varnashrama Dharmas, he who worship the Avataras and studies the Vedas, is a Hindu. "


Hinduism is not only the oldest known religion, but also the most comprehensive faith. The above definition will be many many unfamiliar terms. Terms still come from Hinduism. Everything related to Hinduism, there is also a hierarchy, as shown below:

  1. Srutis (Veda)
  2. Smritis
  3. Itihasa's
  4. Purana's
  5. Agama's
  6. Darsana's

The most authoritative writings are the Srutis. This is in turn from the "Rig-Veda, Yajur-Veda, Sama-Veda, Atharva-Veda.

As Christianity has its reformers, has also Hinduism. Manu, Yajnavalkya and Parasar eg These reformers codified existing Srutis, which was established Smritis.

The data requirements are discussed in the Srutis and Smritis can find are not as clear for everyone. Therefore incarnated Bhagwaan every man the right to give (theory to practice). This we can read (now see) in the Valmiki-Ramayana, Yogavasishstha, Mahabarata and Harivamsa.

There are a total of eighteen purana's:
6 Sattvic and glorify Sri Vishnu

The Agama are a kind of manual how should worship the gods, through such programs Tantra, Mantra and yantra's. The Agama's comes not from the Vedas, but are not contradictory with this.

For the intellectuals are the Darsana's. These are more philosophical and based on the Vedas. The 6-shat Sastra are:
Nyana of Gautama Rishi
Vaisehika of Kanada Rishi
Sankhya of Kapila Muni
Yoga of Patanjali Maharshi
Purva Mimamsa of Jamini
Uttara Mimamsa or Vedanta of Vyasa or Badarayana.

There are also other documents including: The Subhashita's, The Kavya's, The Nataka The Alan and Kara's. They exist out said, instructions and stories in poetry and prose.
