Ratha Yatra 2006
This summer, in the three major cities for the 12th time the Ratha Yatra festival celebrated. This high annual spiritual festival is the largest and most important for all Hare Krishna devotees around the world. It is the celebration of Sri Jagganatha, Lord of the Universe. Jagannatha is usually worshiped in a temple by priests, not everyone here can participate. To the people yet to come to worship Lord Jagannatha, He is going once a year outside the temple during the Ratha Yatra. I went there on September 16 going to take a look at Rotterdam.

Ratha Yatra means "cart festival. Ratha means' cart 'and Yatra' journey / trip. When I arrived at 12.30 hours on the Schiekade, there was also a beautiful decorated cart ready for the parade. On the cart, the image forms (murties) Posted by: Lord Jagannatha, Lord Balarama and Subhadra Devi. Then, the picture of Srila Prabhupada put down. They are specially designed for the Ratha Yatra from their residence in Radhadesh come. Srila Prabhupada is the founder of ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness). Then there were flowers and lots of fruit offered to Lord Jagannatha.

All this was accompanied by a kirtan that the cartel took place. A kirtan is singing or to glorify the name of Lord Krishna, accompanied by dance and musical accompaniment. Just before the departure was a known and usual ritual performed: the breaking of a coconut. This is to remove all the negative so that the day runs smoothly.

Ratha Yatra 2006
The procession left from the Schiekade and went through the Hofplein, Coolsingel, Churchill Square and Westblaak to Eendrachtsplein. The cart drove themselves, but the whole procession by the devotees pulled two long ropes. This symbolizes the invitation of the Lord to sit in our hearts. The cart itself to get so blessing. A few meters of the cart were a few devotees canopy (decorated box) on their shoulders, where the five forms of picture Panca-Tattva (five truths / Krishna and His Companions) were. During the procession there was singing and exuberant dancing.

After about an hour, the procession to the Eendrachtsplein, where a stage and about 20 stalls were set up. On the square were a few dozen visitors who attend the parade had to wait. The picture of Srila Prabhupada was first by the devotees on the stage. The three picture forms of Lord Jagannatha, Lord Balarama and Subhadra Devi were then on a beautiful ornate altar next to the stage, and the Panca-Tattva. The total looked really beautiful. From the beginning to the end of the day was this picture forms a Camar (read tjhaamar) gewaaid by different devotees. This is love for God and for them to cool on a hot day.

The main stand was of course the big eetkraam (prasadam tent). There were all visitors and passers-by throughout the day sacrificed a free vegetarian meal out. The snacks in the other stalls were sold were offered to Sri Krishna. There were colorful T-shirts, posters and paintings of Sri Krishna and other various divine aspects were depicted. The murti? S (figurines) were wonderful to visit. There was even a literary stand? but not everything had to make the Ratha Yatra. Besides religious CDs and DVDs were also film CD and DVD? S. Also musical instruments, jewelry and clothing as the ordinary Indian salwaar kameez and Kurta? S.

Podium Program:
The stage program for the arrival of the Rath already begun with the singing of bhajans. Hereinafter by Nritya dance Vikash an Odissi dance performed. This is a temple dancers dance with a story or myth about the divine aspects clear to the people. After arrival of the Rath was a short lecture on the meaning of the Ratha Yatra, followed by bhajans. Below was a play performed by a group of devotees. The piece was about the four ages: Satya-yug, yug-Tretaa, Dwaapar and Kali-yug-yug. It was a very interesting piece in an understandable way for young and old was transferred. During the piece caused a narrator for the necessary clarity, accompanied by modern music. This piece was made clear how, in the current era of salvation may have eternal cycle of birth, sickness, old age and death, by the chanté the Maha Mantra, which read as follows:
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna
Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama
Rama Rama Hare Hare

After a thunderous applause for the theater followed by a Bharat Natyam dance piece of dance Alarippu. Also by this dance is a story made clear to the public. The dance was first slowly, step by step and without music, while a narrator to the meaning of each step clear. It was faster and the dance music, so the public could recognize each movement.

Ratha Yatra 2006
At the end of the day was still a kirtan held. During this kirtan everything went uitbundiger and much more severe than in the first kirtans before and during the parade. There was more music instruments and danced more people. The Maha Mantra was sung a few times, with different melodies What was nice to see the joy on the faces of the participants.

All people dancing exuded all and also the people who looked, there was a smile to be seen. There was dancing for the Lord of the Universe: Lord Jagannatha, or Lord Krishna. Joy was abundant, and love even more? because that's ultimately all about: love for Lord Krishna. Svasti
