Book I: Samadhi or Above Conscious
Sutra 1: Atha yogânushâsanam.
Verse 1: It (follow) an explanation of Yoga

Sanskritwerken begin with the word 'Atha', an introductory word. We miss a verb, especially the verb 'be' is omitted. This work is in the Sûtrastijl 'written, a style which is known for his economy with words. Sutra means thread. The author gives only the red thread, the comments given by (direct) instruction.

Sutra 2: Yogashchittavrttinirodhah.
Verse 2: Yoga is stopping the way of individual thinking.

This verse gives the key what Yoga means, which is absorbed in Brahman needed: Chitta or thinking individual must be blank, and this is only possible if there is no thought that the attention. This stop is called Nirodha. Chitta is the individual part of Atman.
It can be thought similar to the deep water of the lake, the ripples and patterns on the surface the changes are not to draw attention to what is below the ripples, but the ripples themselves. This is an awareness narrowing. In order to expand awareness to the thinking still to be put.

Sutra 3: tada drashtuh svarûpe 'vasthânam.
Verse 3: Then the seer in his own essence.

If the changes are put on, it is thought blank. The water of the lake is quiet and you (the seer that you yourself are) may look deeper into the water and soil, and are. This is what you yourself are your own essence. This is you no one is I who should be via a variety of qualifications. The I need you to provide you with guidance and a place into the adventurous world of changes. Your own essence or even who you really are stripped of all personality masks or roles and behavioral patterns and defenses.

Note: The self is called Atman. When this awareness is not the potential is Brahman, but to the relative (the creation or manifestation), the Chitta Atman, or individual thought that allerleerst I have a blank or Ahamkâra is. Literally means an I-maker, an ability to ikken or personalities to be created. But you are more than what you think you (at the latest, emotional and intellectual) are. What you are, your own self or essence.

Sutra 4: Vrttisârûpyam itaratra.
Verse 4: Otherwise, there is an assimilation of the way.

The self is a blank IK, but at the moment that the roles I play, the prophet's attention moved from the blank Self / I to I completed. This is a person mentioned, I am a son, I am a father, I am beautiful, I'm this and I am, etc. including denials of it. If you will identify with the changes, your personalities, it is called assimilation. The visionary who first or Blanco I was now the completed IK. He thinks now that he has completed IK. This is called Sârûpyam or assimilation with the thinking.

Note: These four verses of the YogaSûtra of Rishi Patanjali, the essence of what the self-realization and the process would merge (Yoga) in Brahman is. This concise summary would be Rishi has stopped his speech. He goes in the rest of his work in the self-realization process in all its subtle forms. This serves as a kind of manual.
